The Jesson Pagaduan

I am The Jesson Pagaduan. *rawr*

Run

I want to run

Run away from myself

Away from you

Away from this cruel world.

I want to run

With my eyes squinting

Towards myself

To you

Into this cruel world.

To Jay, My Brother

Dear brother,

There isn’t really much change since you left

The stench of cigar and Biguerlai still intrude your filthy room

Your wet underwear is still dangling in the knob,

Still your favorite mug atop your scanty TV.

Nanay, since you left, barely sleep at night;

Tatay’s wheezing somewhat worsen.

They always ask me, “Nak, nag-text na ba si Kuya?”

And I constantly relieve them by giving a feign, valid excuse:

“Baka ‘di pa nakakabili ng sim, mahal kasi.”

Isang was expecting a call or text from you

It was her birthday, you may have forgotten.

Sugar was terribly sicked;

The doctor said she was anemic.

Jaica now is getting plump

Actually all of us,

Save for Ambrose whom Jaica forgets to feed.

Oh, we miss you, my brother.

I miss you.

Since you left, I long for you and your guitar and your songs

        you play at night.

I miss you seeing topless,

Or sometimes almost bottomless.

Nanay barely has forty winks fretting about you there,

Tatay’s eyes always seem teary longing.

Call us a lot, dude

Our little yet happy shack is incomplete

Without you as its foundation

You whom we draw strength and motivation.

Take care

P.S. Brenda thought I own that filthy, yellowish brief in your knob.

I said I just did.

A poem I made for my brother just a few weeks after he left for Singapore.

Someday

I want to travel

I want to go to places I have never been to

I dream of diving into fresh waters

Throwing myself in the deep

Isolating my soul from the banes of school and urban life.

My Brother

His hair was light-colored

He went to bed early

And woke up early

One day he quietly went away

Just like he arrived—quietly

          He was my brother

De La Salle Worlds

finally, i got accepted as a volunteer for worlds!

what is worlds, anyway? it is the “olympics of debate.” debaters from the different parts of the world such as yale, harvard, oxford, and cambridge, among others, will compete for the worlds debate championship. and it will be hosted by dlsu in light of our centennial. YAY!

i applied for the manpower volunteer program. i was with my friend lea (whom i forced hahahaha to join me). after all, its really a RARE opportunity! hello, this will not happen after 10 years? maybe 20 or 30????

so, when i applied in the externals committee under the publicity team, i immediately got accepted. i was tasked to write an article, a press release, for the media partners.

just a couple of minutes ago, i received a txt msg from jasper go, head of marketing committee:

Good evening, Jesson. After careful deliberation, we are happy to inform you that you have been chosen as part of the Marketing Team. I will be updating you tomorrow as to your responsibilities. Congratulations and the Worlds is looking forward to working with you.

yezz!! hahaha! i personally wanted to be part of the marketing team because the paramount task of this committee is headhunting of sponsors. im dreaming of meeting the giant fishes in the market like ayalas, gokongwei, etc. lol. but honestly, i badly want to help. we need to raise millions (lol, they booked sofitel, the whole hotel ahahahahaha).

i am assuming lea got accepted too since she actually has more connections and resource persons hahaha.

Origami (Dr. Marjorie Evasco)

This word unfolds, gathers up wind

To speed the crane’s flight

North of my sun to you.

I am shaping this poem

Out of paper, folding

Distances between our seasons.

This poem is a crane.

When its wings unfold,

The paper will be pure and empty.
